Euro qualification as World Cup preparation

The handball world championship will open in Egypt on January 13th. There is not much time to prepare. Maybe that’s why it’s a good thing that the last two test matches can be played under competitive conditions. On Wednesday and next Sunday there are still two European Championship qualifiers between Germany and Austria on the program.

Buying tickets for the Euro 2022 in Hungary and Slovakia should only be a matter of form. Germany and Austria play in a group of four with Bosnia-Herzegovina and Estonia. The top teams are sure to be part of the EURO next year. Then there are the four best thirds from the eight groups.

The German handball men can already take a big step in Graz on Wednesday. There are just as many wins after two games. This means that Alfred Gislason’s team leads the ranking. Team Austria follows with two points but has only played one match. Bosnia and Estonia have no counters yet. In the first duel between Austria and Germany, the prediction is relatively clear to a German victory.

The well-known bookmakers only offer low odds on the success of the DHB men. Both teams will already compete with the squad that should be successful at the World Cup in Egypt. Despite the compulsory tasks in the European Championship qualification, the view is already moving in the direction of the World Cup in these competitive games. On Wednesday we tend to tip the guest in the neighbourhood duel between Austria and Germany.

Austria – Statistics & Current Form

Basically, it applies to all national handball teams, but even more so for Austria! The Austrians have just played one match after their home European championships. The shape of Ales Pajovic’s team can therefore hardly be described in concrete terms.

Austria with mixed results

In the EM qualification team, Team Austria is only one of its players. The meeting in Bosnia had to be cancelled due to the global health crisis. Overall, however, it has to be said that Austria only won one of the last five international matches. Especially against the top teams, the Alpine republic usually has big problems. Therefore, in the match between Austria and Germany, the odds on an away win are the better choice.

The Austrians played their last game in early November in the European Championship qualifier at home against Estonia. Austria had big problems, especially in the first section. At the break, it was 16:16. The seven of Ales Pajovic could not break away decisively in the second round. In the end, however, it is enough for a 31:28 victory. Tobias Wagner was with his goals the goalscorer.

Already in this game against Estonia, it became clear how much the Austrian game depends on Nikola Bilyk and Janko Bozovic. The problem is that both had to cancel their participation in the World Cup and are therefore not available in the European Championship qualification. Nikola Bilyk read about the consequences of a torn cruciate ligament. Bozovic failed with an achilles tendon tear.

Germany – Statistics & Current Form

In general, it is up to each player to decide whether he or she is available for the national team. In view of the health situation, Alfred Gislason has once again explicitly given his throwers the option to take part in the World Cup in Egypt. Some players have rejected the new national coach. With Hendrik Pekeler, Patrik Wienczek and Finn Lemke, the dreaded middle block is missing.

Numerous failures in the DHB team

The defence must therefore be completely rebuilt. But these are not all the failures that the DHB selection has to complain about. Steffen Weinhold also cancelled voluntarily and thus not a single player from the Champions League winner THW Kiel is in the German squad. Tim Suton, Franz Semper, Fabian Wieder and Jannik Kohlbacher were also present.

Johannes Bitter

  • “The team is completely new – there is a lot of work waiting for us”

Accordingly, Alfred Gislason flies with five debutants at a major tournament for the World Cup in Egypt. One can certainly not speak of a tournament favourite with the German team. On Wednesday in Austria, the quality of the team should be enough. Therefore, the tested betting shops between Austria and Germany also give a clear forecast for the guests.

The German team played two qualifying matches in November. At home, there was a 25:21 win against Bosnia-Herzegovina. Subsequently, Alfred Gislason’s team in Estonia clearly had the upper hand with 35:23. All directions from DHB-Herren are shown below (all) with the actors of THW Kiel on the way.

Austria vs Germany Betting Predictions and Odds by PicksSoccer Experts

At the end of the qualification, Austria and Germany will probably have bought the ticket to the EURO together. It would not be a surprise if the DHB men took pole position and the ÖHB selection came in second. The final decision will only come well after the World Cup. Now the two qualifying games are more of a preparation for the World Cup.

Germany has recently won against Austria seven times in a row. In general, the results speak clearly for the German men. However, Alfred Gislason will have to do without numerous players. While the German men can compensate for these failures to some extent, the absence of Bilyk and Bozovic is extremely difficult for the Austrians. We, therefore, stick to the fact that a tip on the guests is the best choice between Austria and Germany.

Key facts – Austria vs Germany tips

  • Austria won only one of the last five international matches.
  • Germany has to do without seven to eight important players.
  • The DHB men recently won seven times in a row against Austria.

The question should basically be how much the German team will win this game. Due to the missing middle block of the DHB men, it is conceivable that many goals will be scored. Betting on more than 57 goals can therefore be a very effective means of winning. But we decided to allude the odds between Austria and Germany on a German handicap win (-3.5).
