Timea Babos vs Zarina Diyas Tennis Prediction
Timea Babos eases into Strasbourg second round by defeating Fiona Ferro (6-4 6-0) in just over an hour. Apart from dropping her serve once, she put a strong display against the local wildcard, going 5/5 on break points and winning 73% behind her first serve.
In her previous two appearances at Strasbourg as well, the Hungarian had advanced to the second round in 2012 and 2016 but failed to make it to the quarterfinal stage, losing to #79 Sloane Stephens and #66 Lucic-Baroni, respectively.
Prior to this week, Babos had played twelve tournaments in the 2018 season, failing to win back-to-back matches in nine of them. Although, the remaining three includes a title run at Taipei (d. Kozlova) and a runner-up finish at Monterrey (l. Muguruza).
Zarina Diyas gets her first main draw win since Stuttgart by defeating Polish qualifier #384 Katarzyna Piter in straight sets (6-2 6-4). Although the Kazakh had to negotiate a break deficit in the second set, she eventually wrapped up the match in 70 minutes.
Diyas, playing at Strasbourg for the fourth time, will be bidding for her first quarterfinal at the tournament since her debut appearance in 2014 (l. McHale). She is also looking for her second quarterfinal of the season, having lost to Sharapova in Shenzhen last eight.
Babos lost to Diyas in their only previous meeting at 2015 Shenzhen in straight sets (6-3 6-4), while being ranked more than 60 places below the Kazakh. However this time around, Babos heads into the match with a much better season than Diyas under her belt.
