Both Borna Coric and Alexander Zverev are among the top eight players at the major tennis tournament in New York City for the first time in their careers at the 140th US Open men’s singles. While the Croat has reached a quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time, it is the fourth time for Sascha after the French Open in 2018 and 2019 and the Australian Open in 2020, where he was even in the semi-finals.

Perhaps because of this small experience advantage, the odds of the bookmakers turn towards the German in the run-up to the game between Coric and Zverev.
However, Coric against Zverev has to take into account in the forecast that the 23-year-old German has only won one of his four duels against Borna Coric. The “head to head” comparison points in the direction of the Croat, who was able to bow to one of the secret favorites from the competition in the third round in the form of Stefanos Tsitsipas.

It is all the more difficult to give a tip on the outcome of the game at Coric against Zverev. It seems more lucrative to us to bet that a game of at least four sets will require a total of at least 40 games to determine a winner.

Borna Coric – Statistics & current form

Current placement in the world rankings: 32
Position in the seeding list: 27

The 23-year-old Croatian Borna Coric failed in the first round of the Australian Open at the beginning of the year – for the fifth time in his sixth participation in the other Grand Slam tournament of the calendar year, which is played on the hard court.

After he failed to convince at the restart of the ATP World Tour at the Western & Southern Open and was eliminated by David Goffin in the second game, the number 32 in the ATP world rankings with regard to the US Open was certainly not seriously on the list.

For the first time in his career in the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam

His 3-2 victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas was all the more impressive, when he was not only able to fully counteract one of the shooting stars of the ATP World Tour, but also had the necessary physique and nerve strength to win the ticket for the second round after 2018 to solve the US Open.

While he suffered a 3-0 defeat against Juan Martin del Potro in this round two years ago, he came into the game a lot better this year in the round of the best 16 athletes and defeated Jordan Thompson 3-0. For the first time in his career, the former ATP Star of Tomorrow of 2014 is in a quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament.

In 2017 he threw Zverev out of the US Open

Alexander Zverev is a good omen for him. The Croatian has won three of their four clashes so far – including a duel in the second round of the 2017 US Open.

The last time they faced each other in Halle in 2018. Borna Coric clearly won 2-0 and in the end even won the entire tournament, where he won only his second and to this day last individual title on the ATP World Tour. A sure-fire success with Coric against Zverev is of course not the tip on the Croatian’s progress.

Alexander Zverev – Statistics & current form

Current placement in the world rankings: 7
Position in the seeding list: 5

The 23-year-old German Alexander Zverev was able to convince in the first rounds of the US Open, but had to give up a set in every game and fight hard in the first two sets.

In the round of 16, however, he didn’t give upstart Alejandro Davidovich Fokina the slightest chance and defeated the aspiring Spaniard 3-0, giving up just five games.

Already eleven individual titles on the ATP World Tour

For two reasons, he has put himself in a position in which he can now be trusted to make the big hit. For one thing, he is now the highest ranked player in the top half of the tournament tree, as Novak Djokovic was disqualified on Sunday. And on the other hand, despite the disadvantage in direct comparison, he simply has concentrated experience and a more successful past on his side.

Sascha has won eleven individual titles so far in his career – including three major titles in tournaments from the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 category and the 2018 World Cup in London. He has already achieved worlds more than his Croatian opponent in a shorter time on the tour.

Has failed as a favorite at Grand Slams many times

It is precisely because of these successes that the bookmakers’ odds against Zverev are also likely to turn towards the German at Coric.

However, despite a strong performance in the round of 16, Sascha is not allowed to take off prematurely. Especially in recent years, the experts at the Grand Slams have always expected great things from him, but year after year they had to see how he was eliminated surprisingly early against sometimes blatant outsiders.

Borna Coric vs Alexander Zverev Tennis Betting Prediction by PicksSoccer Experts

With Coric versus Zverev, the prediction has to take into account the “head to head” comparison of both athletes, which is why it is somewhat surprising that the betting providers see the Germans as having such an advantage in their odds structure.

However, this is exactly what makes it difficult to follow the win bet on Sascha, as this is only associated with a very low value. With this in mind, a bet on a longer match seems to be a lot more sustainable.
