The Romanian will be hoping to avoid his third straight defeat against the same opponent in the same venue in the space of 12 months when he takes on Aljaz Bedene in the first round of ATP Budapest this Monday.
Marius Copil and Aljaz Bedene have met twice before with both the meetings coming here at Budapest in 2017. Bedene defeated Copil in the qualifying stages and again in the first round (Copil as a lucky loser).

Aljaz Bedene put in a decent effort and won three games against Rafel Nadal in the second set during his second round match at Monte Carlo last week. Only Grigor Dimitrov has managed to win more than three games in a set against Rafael Nadal all week.
Making his Budapest debut as a qualifier in 2017, Aljaz Bedene won six matches (five in straight sets) before losing to Lucas Pouille in the title decider.
The Slovenian is so far having a fine season on clay having made the final at Buenos Aires and the quarterfinal at Rio de Janeiro. He will now be looking to defend his runner-up points at Budapest this week.
Marius Copil will play his first match on clay (on tour) since losing to Ivan Dodig in the first round of ATP Umag in 2017. He finished his 2017 clay swing with the minus w/l ratio, 6/10.
Copil has entered five tournaments on tour so far in 2018, and apart from finishing as the runner-up at Sofia and reaching the second round in Miami, he failed to win a match in the three other tournaments.
