Elina Svitolina News

Elina Svitolina, the highest remaining seed in the draw, is through to her first Miami quarterfinal after defeating the Indian Wells Champion Naomi Osaka and two Australians, Gavrilova and Barty. Her previous Miami best result was reaching the fourth round twice in 2014 and 2016.
It is Svitolina’s fourth quarterfinal of the year (including the Australian Open). Her record in the quarterfinal since 2017 stands at 8-3. No player has won more titles since 2017 than Svitolina (7), and she has already got two Premier titles (Brisbane and Dubai) to begin the year.
Moreover, with 18 wins in the season, she only trails Kerber (22) and Halep (19). A victory in this match would give Svitolina her second Premier Mandatory semifinal (2016 Beijing, lost to Radwanska).
Svitolina will take on Ostapenko as her fourth Top 10 opponent of the season (3-0). In 2017, she secured the second-most Top 10 wins (10), just one behind Wozniacki.

Jelena Ostapenko News

Jelena Ostapenko, making her second main draw appearance in Miami, progressed to her first quarterfinal here. In the opening round, she scored her first Top 50 win of the season by defeating #47 Babos and, in the last 16, got her season’s first Top 10 win (def. #9 Kvitova).
Before this fortnight, Ostapenko could not win back-to-back matches at a WTA tournament (did reach the third round at the Australian Open). She entered March with four first-round exits and with a season W/L of 3/6 on tour.
Both Ostapenko and Svitolina have played exactly the same number of the games (63) in their run to the quarterfinal, and have also spent the same amount of time on court (4 hours and 48 minutes).
