Simona Halep vs Timea Bacsinszky Tennis Prediction

Halep and Bacsinszky have met thrice on tour, with the Romanian coming on top in two of them. Their last meeting happened at 2016 Madrid (clay) when Halep won the third round match 6-2 6-3 in 72 minutes.

Simona Halep News

Simona Halep consolidated Romania’s lead over Switzerland in the World Group Play-off after defeating Golubic in three sets. The match went longer than what Halep would have hoped for, as Golubic broke her twice while snatching the second set, 6-1.
Halep committed more unforced errors (34 to 26) and struck fewer winners (19 to 25) than Golubic en route to her 105-minute victory, but overall it was a satisfactory performance from the world #1 while carrying the expectations of a huge crowd.
Halep could not play the World Group II first round in February due to the ankle injury that she suffered at the Australian Open. She last played in Fed Cup in her hometown of Constanta last season. She defeated Watson and Konta in a dramatic tie to keep Romania in the WG II.

Timea Bacsinszky News

Timea Bacsinszky came up well short in her attempt to subdue Irina-Camelia Begu and level up the tie. She took an early break in the first set of the second rubber but ended up losing the match 6-4 6-1 in an hour and 16 minutes.
The former world #9 Bacsinszky has not played a lot of matches this season prior coming to Cluj-Napoca (0/3). After last year’s Wimbledon, she ended the season to get a surgery done on her right hand (playing hand).
Bacsinszky has the most Fed Cup experience among all the active Swiss players. She has played 25 ties spread over 13 years of participation, which consists of a singles W/L of 20/17.

Tennis Prediction: Simona Halep 2-0 SET
Odds: 1.60
