Katerina Siniakova arrives at the Miami Open looking to win her first main draw match at the tournament. Debuting in 2013 as a qualifier, Siniakova appeared in the main draw two more times, in 2015 and 2017, but failed to make it through.
Siniakova’s recent two losses have come against this year’s Indian Wells finalists, Naomi Osaka and Daria Kasatkina. She lost to Osaka at Doha (6-4 6-0) and was forced to retire during her match against Daria Kasatkina (trailing 2-6 2-5), at the BNP Paribas Open earlier this month.
Siniakova is yet to bring consistency into her season. She reached the final at Shenzhen (losing to Halep) to start the year and the quarterfinals at St. Petersburg (def. Makarova), while suffering early rounds exit at Melbourne, Doha, and Indian Wells.
Johanna Larsson Tennis Preview
Johanna Larsson has amassed a total of six wins in 2018 after participating in six tournaments, which includes a quarterfinal at Budapest (season’s best result).
Larsson has reached third round of the Miami Open a couple of times in the past (2011 and 2015), including the year she debuted. Last year, she lost a close second round match to Barbora Strycova, which ended in a third set tiebreaker.
At the Indian Wells this month, Larsson lost in the qualifying rounds to Kurumi Nara, whom she defeated earlier in the season (Auckland). However, at Miami, she got direct entry into the main draw for the fourth consecutive season.
