Strangely, he squandered a 2-0* (40-0*) lead to the lose the first set 5-7.
The big-serving Karlovic has played 17 tiebreakers in his nine matches this season, and he managed to win nine of them (9/8).
Except 2016, Ivo Karlovic has entered Indian Wells every year since 2004 and making the quarterfinal once in 2011 is his best result in this event. On the positive side, only twice he faced first-round exit from those 13 appearances, in 2004 (Andrei Pavel) and 2012 (Lukasz Kubot).
This will be the first meeting between these two players and Ivo Karlovic’s massive experience at this venue could be an advantage for him.
