Pablo Andujar posted his best results since coming back from the long injury break by winning back-to-back titles at Alicante Challenger and Marrakech.
However, the experienced Spaniard failed to back it up in the following week as he suffered two defeats in Barcelona last week, one in the qualifying stages against Bjorn Fratangelo and another in the round of 16 against Roberto Bautista Agut.
The title win at Marrakech was his first such success on tour since winning the ATP Gstaad title in 2014. These encouraging results would probably give Andujar the much-needed confidence to have another good run on tour.
The last time Andujar played a competitive match at Portugal was here at Estoril in 2011, when he was forced to retire from his first-round match against Alejandro Falla.

Stefanos Tsitsipas became the first Greek player in nearly 30 years to reach the final of an ATP World Tour event by progressing to the final of Barcelona last week.
Though he could not test Rafael Nadal in the final (2-6 1-6), he did post some impressive results against clay court specialists such as Moutet, Schwartzman, Ramos, Thiem and Carreno Busta, all in straight sets.
It was also his maiden final appearance at this level. Before entering Barcelona, he won three matches as a qualifier in Monte Carlo and reached the second round (lost to David Goffin), which makes it an excellent start to the clay swing (8/2).
