USA vs. Australia Fed Cup World Group 2019 Betting Predictions

In the first round of the Fed Cup 2019 it comes to the classic between the US and Australia. This duel has already seen 14x in the history of the most traditional women’s tennis team competition in the world (first time in 1963). The USA leads in direct comparison with 9: 5, whereby this balance is for the current teams little meaningful, since since the middle of the 1980iger years only one game took place (in the year 2016, result 4: 0 for the USA in Australia). The Americans enjoy the home advantage, were allowed to select the corresponding underground and decided hardcourt (most curiously, so far only one of the 14 encounters on this floor has taken place!). With this, Captain Kathy Rinaldi pursues the strategy of focusing on one’s own strengths and tries less to force the opponent onto an unpopular ground. A comprehensible decision, because the USA have a very strong team despite some refusals and are rightly bursting with self-confidence.

The country comparison is held in the small town of Asheville (almost 90,000 inhabitants), whose arena, however, does not hide behind those of larger cities, it offers about 7,700 spectators place. It is expected that the well-known patriotic American fans will provide a real and tangible home advantage for their team. The encounter is also interesting from the German point of view, because the winner would be the next opponent of the team of Captain Jens Gerlach, provided that after the cancellation of Angelique Kerber and Julia Görges replacement-weakened German team surprisingly against Belarus should prevail. The betting base dares at the game USA vs. Australia is a prediction and will discuss below all relevant facts, statistics and current shape curves.

USA – Statistics & Current Form

The US Fed Cup Team:

  • Madison Keys – WTA World Ranking No. 17
  • Danielle Collins – WTA World Ranking No. 23
  • Sofia Kenin – WTA World Ranking No. 36
  • Nicole Melichar – WTA Double World Ranking No. 13

USA Fed Cup captain Kathy Rinaldi, who loves and lives tennis since early childhood (she won her first women’s match in Wimbledon shortly after her 14th birthday!) Now has to give up the Williams sisters and Sloane Stephens as team captain. The fact that she was still able to put together such a strong troupe, speaks for the great breadth of top players, which the US now has again.

Madison Keys tops the US team as # 1. She should meet Daria Gavrilova on Saturday for the start. This repeats a duel that has taken place once in 2016 in the Fed Cup. At the time Keys defeated the Australian on sand in front of their home crowd smoothly with 6: 4 6: 2. The overall record of Keys in the Fed Cup is 3: 2. In the recent Australian Open Keys presented in an appealing form and defeated, among other things, the higher placed and favored Belgian Elise Mertens smooth in two sets, before failing in three sets to Elina Svitolina.

Danielle Collins is No. 2 in the US team after strong last months. In Melbourne, Collins also moved into the focus of German tennis fans, as they swept Angelique Kerber 6-0 and 6: 2 downright off the pitch! After her semi-final debut at the first major of the year, she has reached the highest world ranking list of her career and it should only be a matter of time until the next step in the top 20 succeeds. She will make her debut against Australia in the Fed Cup.

Sofia Kenin, as current world number 36, is not far behind her team-mates Madison Keys and Danielle Collins. Thus, she could be a real alternative in singles on Sunday. This is especially true if Keys or Collins on Saturday in the individual not convincing or should be struck after their matches. Her only Fed Cup singles to date she played in last year’s final in Prague against the Czech Republic. There she defeated Barbora Strycova and Katerina Siniakova after a big fight each in just three sets.

Nicole Melichar is by far the best double player in the American team and thus set for a possible decision double rock solid. The most likely option at her side is Sofia Kenin, who is much better placed in the double world ranking than Keys or Collins. The first Grand Slam tournament of the year ran neatly for Melichar with the knockout round in the doubles (on the side of the 43-year-old Kveta Peschke) and the achievement of the mixed semi-final with the Brazilian Bruno Soares. In the Fed Cup, Melichar, born in the Czech Republic, makes her debut for the USA.

Australia statistics & current form

The Australian Fed Cup Team:

  • Ashleigh Barty – WTA World Ranking No. 14 / WTA Double No. 6 World Ranking
  • Daria Gavrilova – WTA World Ranking No. 46
  • Priscilla Hon – WTA World Ranking No. 142 / WTA Double No. 118 World Ranking
  • Kimberly Birrell – WTA World Ranking No. 157
  • Astra Sharma – WTA World Ranking No. 160

Australia’s Fed Cup captain Alicia Molik has to rely first and foremost on her top player Ashleigh Barty. If she had managed to get a second very strong double player into the squad, she would have been in the match between USA vs. USA. Australia has been a tip on the Aussies a much better option. But Sam Stosur, who would have been absolutely predestined for this task after her double win at the Australian Open, has ended her Fed Cup career. In addition, Ajla Tomljanovic is missing in the Australian selection, which would have been a very good and more than serious alternative to Daria Gavrilova as the second single player.

Ashleigh Barty loves team competition above all else and once even interrupted her then-up-and-coming tennis career to pursue a professional career in team sport cricket. Luckily for all tennis fans, she decided to return to the yellow felt balls again. In the Fed Cup, she often outgrows herself – according to her maximum motivation in this competition – and therefore has an outstanding record of 11: 2 (singles + doubles). Her debut debut was at the age of 16 on the side of Casey Dellacqua. With this she has also without exception denied all their Fed Cup doubles, but after Dellacqua’s resignation, it is now to find a new partner for Barty. With Barty in the top 15 in singles and doubles in the top 15, she is undoubtedly the top player in the game, but she’s also under immense pressure. Because with a single point of Gavrilova is not necessarily to be expected, Barty must win both singles against very strong opponents and also with a new, relatively weak double partner also take the double point. Accordingly, in the case of USA – Australia, the prediction hardly turns towards the Australians.

Daria Gavrilova is the second single player in the Australian team. Gavrilova has never been able to call up her potential in the Fed Cup, so she only has a weak single score of 3: 5. All three wins are against players outside the top 100 in the world ranking list (Ivana Jorovic, Nina Stojanovic and Quirine Lemoine). Despite her so far weak Fed Cup performances, she could also be an option in the doubles for lack of other convincing alternatives, but it is more likely that captain Alicia Molik will sit next to Barty on Priscilla Hon or Astra Sharma in doubles.

The 20-year-old Priscilla Hon debuts in the Fed Cup as well as the three-year-old Astra Sharma. Should it come to a decisive double at the score of 2: 2 after the individual, is expected to Molik one of them in double with Barty used. For putting on the minimal better Gavrilova in the double at best, makes little sense, as Hon and Sharma should still be fresh at this time, while Gavrilova should be two hard single in the bone. For Hon, the better double ranked world ranking compared to Sharma. But Sharma last managed an absolute surprise coup at the Australian Open when she sensationally reached the mixed final with compatriot John-Patrick Smith.

Born in Düsseldorf, Kimberly Birell is planned as a pure substitute player and has no realistic odds in singles or doubles. Their only match in the Fed Cup so far (a chance 3-6, 1-6 defeat to Slovak Dominika Cibulkova in 2016) should therefore be followed by at least the current duel against the USA.

USA vs. Australia Tennis Betting Tips and Predictions

At the meeting USA vs. Australia look at the odds of bookmakers as follows: For a home win offer the bookmakers in USA vs. Australia odds up to 1.75. The American team is therefore slightly favored, because for the success of the Australians odds up to 2.03 are available. We see the US team more clearly in the role of favorites, because in our opinion, a single point for the Aussies by Daria Gavrilova in their previously disastrous Fed Cup balance sheet and the much better placed American opponents is very unlikely. According to Ashleigh Barty must already win their two singles to keep the Australians before the double ever in the game. However, this is far from easy against the marginally behind her Madison Keys and currently in the shape of her life Danielle Collins. And even if you manage to do that, we see the US doubles (presumably fresh and Melichar / Kenin hot) against a then exhausted Barty with a relatively weak and new partner by her side.

Key Facts – USA vs. Australia tips

Barty in single and double world ranking the best placed player
In the United States, the situation is much better
Gavrilova in the Fed Cup still without a win against a top 100 player

Our recommendation is to place a tip on a home win of the US girls at the Fed Cup game USA – Australia. As a bet, we recommend playing the tip on the USA vs Australia at odds 1.75 with three units.

Betting Prediction: 1
Odds: 1.75
