Donna Vekic will kick-start her clay season after winning six matches in the first three months of 2018. Her worst loss of the season came to #154 Bonaventure at Budapest (it was also her worst tour-level defeat since #184 Muhammad, 2016 Brisbane).
Vekic, who won her first career title before turning 18 at Kuala Lumpur in 2014, ended her three-year wait for a second one, by winning the grass title of Nottingham (def. Konta) in 2017. It was her best season, in terms of year-end ranking (#56).
Since 2012, Vekic has posted an overall W-L record of 17-24 on clay (which includes ITFs and WTA qualifying rounds). She has never reached the round of 16 stage of a WTA clay tournament.
Alexandra Cadantu Prediction
Alexandra Cadantu achieved her career-high ranking (#59) in January 2014. After posting a season where she won just three WTA matches (10-28 overall), she crashed down to #233, a year later.
After ending the 2014-16 seasons outside the top 200, she re-entered and finished the 2017 season in the top 150. This was possible due to her clay results in 2017, a final at Bol $125k and four ITF semifinals.
Cadantu booked her Lugano main draw berth by defeating #273 Marcinkevica and #121 Rus in the qualifying stages.
