Hungary’s first women’s handball league brings us today the match between Ferencvaros, the main contractor for the title for Gyor, and the newly promoted Vasas, a team that returns to the first league after a 7-year break. The match is scheduled from 19:00 in the Elek Gyula arena.
Ferencvaros – Vasas
If for Ferencvaros is already the second match in the championship, for Vasas is the debut match, and the reason for the celebration for the team in the capital on return to the first league. Vasas is the most titrated team in Hungary with 15 national titles, the last in 1993. But the Budapest team tries the impossible in the Elek Gyula arena, where Ferencvaros did not lose in the last season, winning 12 victories and a draw even with the great rival Gyor . Ferencvaros started in strength and this season managed to win without emotion with Alba Fehervar in the first stage, score 32-18. Kovacsics and Snelder were the main markers in this game with 5 or 4 successes. Ferencvaros’s vice-champions have done very well in all chapters, defending them at the highest level. For Vasas it will be very difficult to keep up, being a newly-promoted team, which in the previous league participation failed only 2 points in the regular season. Vasas is a weaker opponent as Alba Fehervar (6th place last season) and will probably have to face the same fate in this game. The two teams have met three times so far, twice in the 2008-2009 season, Ferencvaros winning both games (39-25 and 31-26) and in 2016 in a friendly match won by Ferencvaros, score 39-24.
