Siniakova trailed the first set of this last eight match by 5-2, before saving six set points and stealing the set. Earlier in the day, the Czech defeated Veronica Cepede Royg with the same scoreline of 7-5 6-4 in the second round (trailed its second set by a break).
It has been a tough season for Siniakova after losing the final of Shenzhen to Simona Halep in January, where she was the defending champion. She has reached the quarterfinals at St. Petersburg and Prague, but also suffered five opening round exits.

Johanna Larsson is one of the few players whose matches this week has not been interrupted by rain. She enters the semifinals with a comeback win (5-7 7-5 6-4) over #70 Kristyna Pliskova in two hours and 16 minutes, having lost the first set from a 4-2 lead.
Unlike Nuremberg debutante Siniakova, Larsson has played at the tournament three times in the past but hadn’t been able to secure a win in the last two editions. She started this week with a retirement win over fifth seed Begu and crushing McHale 6-3 6-0.
Larsson has lost all her previous five semifinals, spanning from October 2015 (Linz) to April 2017 (Bogota). Moreover, while Siniakova bids to become the third Czech to appear in the Nuremberg final (Ka. Pliskova in 2014 and Krejcikova in 2017), Larsson is seeking to be the first Swede.
