Maximilian Marterer vs Yuichi Sugita Tennis Prediction

Maximilian Marterer started his grass season with an unconvincing three-set win over Viktor Galovic in the first round of ATP Stuttgart last week but lost the following match to Nick Kyrgios in three sets, despite playing better tennis for the most part of the match.
This will be the 23-year-old German’s third appearance at ATP Halle. Making his debut in 2013, he lost his final qualifying match to Mirza Basic, while in 2017, he won two qualifying matches before losing to Dominic Thiem in the first round.
Maximilian Marterer, who posted his career-best slam result by reaching the third round at the Australian Open earlier this season, bettered his own record by going one step further at the French Open two weeks back (R16), where he lost to Rafael Nadal in straight sets, 3-6 2-6 6-7.
Yuichi Sugita ended his ten-match losing run by defeating Nikoloz Basilashvili (6-3 6-2) in the first round of ATP Hertogenbosch last week. However, he couldn’t add more wins as he was knocked out in the second round by Marius Copil (5-7 6-4 4-6).
Despite being in a terrible form at the moment, Yuchi Sugita must be fairly confident going into this match, considering he did extremely well on grass in 2017 by winning 12 matches (12/4) and two titles, at Surbiton Challenger and ATP Antalya.
Yuichi Sugita, who lost his first round match (as a lucky loser) to Roger Federer here in 2017, has entered 15 tournaments on tour in 2018 and faced first-round exits in 12 of them.
In the pair’s first-ever meeting, current form makes Maximilian Marterer the favorite, but this match is not beyond Yuchi Sugita’s reach, considering his record on grass.

Tennis Prediction: Maximilian Marterer
Odds: 1.61
