Philipp Kohlschreiber vs Denis Istomin Tennis Prediction

Philipp Kohlschreiber’s successful clay season came to a disappointing end as he suffered a first-round defeat at the hands of Borna Coric in the French Open. It was his second consecutive first-round exit in grand slams, having lost to Yoshihito Nishioka in the first round of the Australian Open earlier this season.
Except for 2011 and 2012, Philipp Kohlschreiber has appeared here every year since 2003 and has got an impressive record as well, especially in the recent years. In the previous five visits, he finished as the runner-up twice (2013 and 2016) and made the quarterfinal twice (2017 and 2015).
The last time Philipp Kohlschreiber played a tournament at home was in Munich a few weeks back which happened to be his successful week of the season. He defeated the likes of Ivo Karlovic and Roberto Bautista Agut before losing to Alexander Zverev in the final.
Denis Istomin produced his best performance of the season against Roberto Bautista Agut in the French Open last fortnight, but that wasn’t enough to get the win. 2-6 7-6 6-1 4-6 4-6.
The loss against Bautista Agut was Istomin’s eighth consecutive defeat on tour. His last win on tour came against the Serbian teenager Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round of the Miami Open in March 2018.
Denis Istomin made his ATP Stuttgart debut in 2016 but failed to register a win as he lost to Radek Stepanek in the first round. Moreover, he played four matches on grass in 2017 and lost all four, with one of those losses coming against a German opponent, Maximilian Marterer, in the first round of ATP Halle.
The Uzbek leads the H2H 5-2 including winning their only previous meeting on grass (2011 Wimbledon, R1). Regardless of the H2H, Philipp Kohlschreiber is heavily favored to win this match as Denis Istomin lacks form and fitness at the moment.

Tennis Prediction: Philipp Kohlschreiber
Odds: 1.33
