US Masters 2020 – favourites, prognosis & betting odds for the golf classic

Who will win the major in Augusta?

The US Masters 2020 is coming up and the golf world is holding its breath again. In this crazy year in which numerous tournaments were cancelled, abandoned or postponed, everyone agreed:

The major in Augusta has to take place.

US Masters 2020 - favourites, prognosis & betting odds for the golf classic

So now it is November and on the most prestigious golf course in the world in Augusta, there will be significantly fewer flowers blooming next to the holes than always in May. In addition, no spectators will be allowed, which also takes away a bit of the magic.

It is clear that it will still be an incredibly exciting and high-class tournament – especially since the preparation of the players was so completely different than predictions are not that easy.

Some played the European Tour, others the slimmed-down PGA Tour and others, like the big favourite Bryson DeChambeau, have completely done without tournaments recently and devoted themselves entirely to their training.

From Thursday we will find out which strategy will be the best.

US Masters 2020 Golf – Best Odds

🇺🇸 🏌️‍♂️ Bryson DeChambeau
⛳️ Odds: 8:50
🇺🇸 🏌️‍♂️ Dustin Johnson
⛳️ Odds: 10.00
🇪🇸 🏌️‍♂️ John Rahm
⛳️ Odds: 11.00
🇺🇸 🏌️‍♂️ Justin Thomas
⛳️ Odds: 13.00
🇬🇧 🏌️‍♂️ Rory McIlroy
⛳️ Odds: 13.00
🇺🇸 🏌️‍♂️ Xander Schauffele
⛳️ Odds: 15.00
🇺🇸 🏌️‍♂️ Brooks Koepka
⛳️ Odds: 17.00
🇺🇸 🏌️‍♂️ Patrick Reed
⛳️ Odds: 29.00
🇺🇸 🏌️‍♂️ Tiger Woods
⛳️ Odds: 46.00
🇬🇧 🏌️‍♂️ Justin Rose
⛳️ Odds: 67.00

At the US Masters 2020 there will be some other changes besides the missing spectators:

1. The traditional par 3 event on the day before the start of the tournament was cancelled.

2. The 10-stroke rule, which was unique for the Masters, was suspended for 2020. This means that only the 50 best players qualify for the third and fourth round and no longer also the players who are within ten strokes of the leader.

3. All players are sent out on each day of tee 1 and tee 9 to shorten the total playing time of the field, as it gets dark earlier in November than in May. So it is hoped to finish all laps on time before dark.

The US Masters winners for the past 5 years

🏆 Tiger Woods 2019 – 1 stroke ahead of Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Xander Schauffele
🏆 Patrick Reed 2018 – 1 stroke ahead of Rickie Fowler
🏆 Sergio Garcia 2017 – playoff with Justin Rose
🏆 Danny Willett – 3 punches ahead of Jordan Spieth, Lee Westwood in 2016
🏆 Jordan Spieth 2015- 4 punches ahead of Phil Mickelson, Justin Rose

The question of favourites is, of course, a particularly delicate matter this year.

Defending champion Tiger Woods has played very few tournaments since the restart and was not able to convince. At the US Open, he even completely missed the cut.

This means that the betting providers have the usual suspects at the top of the list again, with the favourites list already very much in line with the current golf world rankings.

With Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy, four of the top 5 golfers are also ahead of the betting companies.

DeChambeau and the reinvention of golf

Only the absolute top favourite steps out of line here. Because Bryson DeChambeau turned some things upside down with his physically calculated way of playing golf. His clubs, for example, are all of the same lengths and only differ in severity and angle of attack.

He has also gained so much muscle mass that he can now carry the ball over 400 yards! can beat. This means that it can even reach a shorter par 4 holes with one stroke. This is tantamount to a small revolution and it will be exciting to see whether he can already prove it in Augusta from Thursday.

This length advantage definitely makes DeChambeau a top favourite for bookmakers.

We also see him as a hot topic for betting, but we would not completely ignore the former winner Patrick Reed. Former winners are always on the list, especially at the Masters.

US Masters 2020 favourites

The hottest Masters favourites are featured below. Bryson DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson have the two lowest US Masters odds, although those of 8.50 and 10.00 are still absolutely beatable.

Bryson DeChambeau

🇺🇸 Bryson DeChambeau

DeChambeau is currently only No. 6 in the world, but this is mainly due to the fact that he has played very few tournaments. However, the two he has played over the past few months have done extremely well.

He won the US Open with an incredible six strokes ahead and was the only player ever to stay below par. In his second appearance at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, he was eighth.

In his free time, he posted recordings of his training on Twitter and how he now hits the ball over 400 yards carry. With this length, which is unmatched on the PGA Tour, we simply have to count him among the top favourites at the Masters, as his short game is better than it was a year ago.

Dustin Johnson

🇺🇸 Dustin Johnson

Dustin Johnson is basically one of the favourites at major tournaments, which of course is partly due to his length, but also due to his precise iron strokes. Thus, the weal and woe of his game are mostly decided on the greens.

A sixth place at the US Open and a second at the Houston Open speak for themselves. In addition, he comes to Augusta as the reigning vice-champion, which shouldn’t be detrimental to his incentive to finally win this tournament.

Johnson can be expected again this week, although the somewhat unstable weather in November and thus the more changeable green conditions do not necessarily suit his game.

A betting recommendation can therefore only be made with restrictions.

🇪🇸 John Rahm

The Spaniard is still one of the high-flyers on the PGA Tour, even if the hype around him has cooled down a bit since he has not yet won a major. A shared second place at the ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP recently is a good indication of his also good form.

In the past two years, Rahm came in 4th and T9 in Augusta, which suggests that he is doing quite well with the place. For him, however, the same applies as for Johnson. Putting is his Achilles heel and whether it will be that easy this week is debatable.

Before we consider betting on cream at odds of 11.00, we recommend tips on DeChambeau or Johnson, where the odds are only slightly lower.

Justin Thomas

🇺🇸 Justin Thomas

Justin Thomas is the fourth top player in the league to dominate the PGA Tour in recent weeks. With an eighth place at the US Open and a shared second at the ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP recently, he’s in a similar shape to Johnson or Rahm.

What speaks against Thomas, however, is the fact that he cannot show a single top 10 result in Augusta. Every time Augusta had his way, his little hand wiggled something, which over time, especially for the Masters, can solidify in his head (see McIlroy).

Thus, bets on Thomas should be viewed with caution in this tournament.

They could possibly be interesting again if he is up there after two rounds and none of the other top favourites is in the lead.

Rory McIlroy

🇬🇧 Rory McIlroy

For Rory McIlroy, the Masters is something like his personal Mount Everest. He has been trying to win this tournament for years but has not come out more than fourth place.

Since his current form with ranks 21 and 17 in his last two tournaments is not quite as good as that of his competitors, we do not see him at the top of the list for bets.

US Masters 2020: betting on underdogs

We have put together two more outsiders – whereby outsiders in this case mainly apply to the US Masters betting odds.

Because both Reed and Rose have already proven at the Masters that this place suits them particularly well.

Patrick Reed

🇺🇸 Patrick Reed

Patrick Reed is the Master’s winner of 2018. This means that he can already be counted among the secret favourites for 2020 without knowing his latest results. Because former champions always play particularly well in Augusta. The best example is Bernhard Langer, who always flourishes on time for the Masters.

His last results (13th US Open, 14th ZOZO CHAMPIONCHIP) are not so bad as to be considered weak.

In this respect, bets on a reed at odds of up to 29.00 are extremely worthwhile. This value can hardly be surpassed.

Justin Rose

🇬🇧 Justin Rose

Justin Rose is our last underdog. Why did the Englishman, who slipped to position 28 in the world rankings, deserve it?

Because he’s an absolute Masters expert and his odds are so high that you can’t go wrong with betting on him.

Rose finished second twice in Augusta (2015 and 2017) and achieved six more top 15 placements, more than any other player in this period since 2007. Of course, like McIlroy, this eternal failure is also in his head, but Sergio Garcia also had to often fail before the breakthrough.

Betting on rose is, therefore, a great option for a small stake to get good value. After all, the betting odds on him go up to 67.00.

Who will win the US Masters 2020 in Augusta?

Our favourites for the overall win this crazy year are Bryson DeChambeau for his exceptional playing style and Dustin Johnson for his form.

When betting on these two, however, the value is not quite as high. We recommend tips on the two secret favourites Patrick Reed and Justin Rose.

In a year in which many things are different, the Master’s winner does not necessarily have to come from the top 10 in the world rankings.

Key facts – US Masters 2020

🏌️‍♂️ The Masters own 10-stroke cut rule has been suspended for this year’s tournament
🏌️‍♂️ The defending champion is the American Tiger Woods
🏌️‍♂️ The tournament should originally have taken place from April 9th to 12th

Incidentally, Sergio Garcia, one of the winners of recent years, had to cancel his participation at short notice due to Covid19.

The only German player in the field is Bernhard Langer, who will play his 37th Masters and is one of the record participants.
