The Jets have just come from a defeat against the Canucks, but have so far won five of their eight games, some of them quite clearly.
Even top scorer Patrick Laine’s trading away has not changed that. As soon as Pierre-Luc Dubois is out of his mandatory 14-day quarantine, they will get a replacement who will help them immediately.
Offense remains hot
But even without Laine or Dubois, the jets know where the goal is. For example, against Edmonton four days ago they scored six goals – with five different players being successful.
The depth in their roster is impressive. With Ehlers, Scheifele, Copp, Connor, Lowry and Wheeler, the Jets have six strikers who have already scored at least three goals. For comparison: the upcoming opponent from Calgary only has two.
Defense as a problem child
Since Winnipeg also has the Vezina Trophy winner for the best goalie of the 2020 season in their ranks with Connor Hellebuyck, there is currently only one problem area: the defense.
With 3.13 goals conceded per game, they get way too many. Especially their first pair of defenders, Morrissey / Wheeler, are challenged to get a little more presence on the ice.

The Flames are not really getting into the season yet. Defensively, they are quite decent, which is certainly also due to the new goalie Jacob Markstrom, but offensively it is still a big problem.
There has been almost no support so far, especially from the two rear rows of storms. Bennett, Backlund, Leivo, Lucic, Ryan and Nordstrom have only scored four hits together and have a total of +/- 12. This is a subterranean record that makes her three victories so far seem almost unbelievable.
There is no depth in the roster
The front office in Calgary must also be held responsible. In the off-season, they focused their entire focus on a new goalie (which was also successful) but neglected the depth of the offence.
