Over the course of the 2019/2020 season, Liverpool FC only lost 15 points on 38 match days on the way to the championship. In the current season only twelve games have been played and yet the Reds have already lost eleven points. Nevertheless, we grumble at a high level, because the Klopp team is still fully involved in the fight for a potential title defence.

As second, the reigning champion currently only has to let one team go ahead due to the goal difference. Exactly this club will be a guest at Anfield Road on Wednesday evening as part of the 13th matchday in the Premier League. Between Liverpool and Tottenham, the odds of the best bookmakers are relatively clear in favour of the host, who has so far won all national home games in 2020/21.

In addition, the Spurs have mostly had nothing to gain on Merseyside in the recent past. Only one of the last 26 away games in Anfield were the Londoners able to make victorious. Inevitably, a Liverpool vs. Tottenham’s prediction on the guest is therefore associated with a lot of risks. But we would by no means rule out a surprise coup by the Mourinho team.

The fact that “The Special One” did not play against any other colleague more often in its impressive coaching career without even winning once does not change that. Overall, there were five duels between Mourinho vs. Klopp. “The Normal One” leads this comparison with three wins and two draws.

Liverpool – stats & current form

Liverpool Football Club just isn’t getting off to a good start this season. Certainly, after the almost perfect previous year, expectations have been raised many times over and yet the protégés of trainer Jürgen Klopp are currently showing human traits. 25 points after twelve matchdays are by no means a bad result, but the Reds only won seven of the matches played to date. In addition, there have already been four draws and one defeat.

You can at least rely on your home strength in the Premier League. All six games on Anfield Road were victorious in the current season. Mané, Salah and Co. scored exactly three goals on average, but only remained without conceding a goal in their most recent two successes against Wolverhampton (4-0) and Leicester (3-0). In general, the defensive is still the biggest construction site for the reigning champion.

Liverpool’s defence remains a building site

18 goals conceded after twelve games are not only the worst value of all clubs in the upper half of the table but are also almost twice as many as the direct competitor from Tottenham had to put up with so far. In addition, because the regular central defender with van Dijk and Gomez is still out and the backups Fabinho, Matip or Williams have a difficult time, especially against faster attackers, it could be a long 90 minutes for the current second in the Premier League table.

The defensive susceptibility in connection with the regularly disappointing performances against well-functioning and sometimes low defensive rows are enough clues for us to keep an eye on the high odds on the Spurs between Liverpool and Tottenham. The personnel situation adds to this, especially since Joel Matip, another defender, threatens to drop out. Thiago, Milner, Shaqiri, Keita and also super newcomer Jota are also absent due to injury.

The probable lineup of Liverpool:
Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip (Williams), Fabinho, Robertson; Henderson, Wijnaldum, Jones; Salah, Firmino, Mane

Tottenham – stats & current form

Can Jose Mourinho really make Tottenham a champion? This exciting question cannot yet be finally clarified and yet it seems to be certain that the Portuguese starter has lifted the Spurs to a new level. Although the Lilywhites do not set off an offensive fireworks display in every game, there is currently no way around the capital city club in terms of stability, constancy and serenity.

This can be proven on the one hand by the fact that Tottenham only conceded ten goals in twelve games and thus provides the best defence in the Premier League. On the other hand, however, also with the fact that the Londoners have not lost a single league game after the 0-1 bankruptcy at the start at home against Everton.

Tottenham with strong results against the direct competition

Especially against the absolute top teams, the blue and whites have so far been able to convince. 6: 1 against Manchester United, 2: 0 against Manchester City, 2: 0 against Arsenal and a more than respectable 0: 0 at Chelsea FC underline the impression that Kane, Son and Co. can play their strengths especially against teams that take an offensive approach yourself. Tottenham like to let the opponent take the ball, but countered brilliantly. It is quite possible that this approach is extremely promising for Wednesday evening as well.

It is also positive that the Spurs won four of their six away games this season (two draws). The goal difference of 14: 4 also speaks a clear language. It is also interesting that the Londoners made three of their last seven guest appearances against reigning English champions victorious. Personally, it looks good too. With Lamela only one professional will be injured.

The probable lineup of Tottenham:
Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Dier, Reguilon; Sissoko, Hojbjerg; Bergwijn, Ndombele, Son; Kane

Liverpool vs Tottenham  Direct comparison / H2H balance

The pairing of the two English heavyweights has of course a long tradition. In the country’s top division alone, the teams face each other for the 155th time. Liverpool clearly leads the record with 73 wins. In recent years, the Reds have mostly retained the upper hand, for example in the 2018/2019 Champions League final or in the preseason when the Klopp team won 1-0 in London and prevailed 2-1 at home.

As already mentioned, Tottenham only won one of the last 26 guest appearances on Merseyside. This single success dates back to 2011, almost ten years ago. In view of the head-to-head balance, a tip on the underdog is very daring between Liverpool and Tottenham.

Liverpool vs Tottenham Betting Predictions and Odds by PicksSoccer Experts

It is the absolute top game of the 13th matchday in the Premier League. The reigning champions meet the current championship leader. Liverpool welcome Tottenham. According to the betting odds, the favourite role is with the home side, who have won all league games at home and still do not seem as dominant and stable as last year.

In addition, the Spurs are now an opponent at Anfield, who have remained unbeaten in the Premier League eleven times in a row, have won four of six games away and have the best defence in England. In the sixth attempt, Jose Mourinho finally wants to land his first win against Jürgen Klopp.

Key facts – Liverpool vs Tottenham tips

Liverpool have already conceded 18 goals this season
The Spurs have the best defence with ten goals conceded
The LFC has to do without numerous important players

From a purely tactical point of view, we see the advantages of the North Londoners, who will counter from a compact defence. With Son and Kane, the Lilywhites have the perfect players to confront the weakened LFC defence, which has been extremely vulnerable this season. Even if the direct comparison clearly points in the direction of the Reds, we are in good spirits that the current front runner can manage the surprise on Wednesday evening on Anfield Road.
